Here is some stuff I've drawn in class from the last month. I've never used acrylic, other than just messing around. In fact, I've only had 2 classes in which we've worked exclusively in pencil or a tiny bit of charcoal. So I'm kind of jumping into all of this a little blind, but loving it anyway. My teacher has a fixation with 3d space and cubes. He would be an excellent 3d modeler.

Self Portrait (eyes was the subject; I've drawn my eyes so much straight on I decided to turn to the side and make it more interesting. OUCH. The dude in the lower right hand corner is an expression of my pain. I was basically drawing cross-eyed for an hour).

I draw better in pen for some reason. Screw fancy art supplies! Something about not being able to erase makes me a lot more precise and decisive; I'm faster too, strangely enough.

My teacher has consistently commented on my strength of composition in my pieces. He asked me to explain to the class how I do it with this one. It's strange, I look at the subject until a lightbulb turns on in my head. Sometimes it's instant, sometimes it takes 10-15 minutes. I don't draw until I have at least a general sense of how things are going to play out. My background in web design has really helped my understanding of how eyes flow throughout a page/piece without getting stressed out. If I knew more about composition, I'd be able to explain it. Sadly, I'm still learning and can't really express it adequately.

I play games with myself whenever I draw. Art gets boring if you turn into a glorified photocopier, lol. Pretty much everything is a game with me; games exist when you impose restrictions and rules on yourself. It's a strange paradox. By imposing restrictions, you transcend your own restrictive tendencies. You're able to see things clearer. Anyway, my game with this one was no erasing anything. Hence the droopy face.
